Double Wiltshire as Yachtsmen finish Pre-Season with home win

Wroxham played their final Pre-Season Friendly at their familiar Trafford Park ground on Friday evening when Norwich CBS were the visitors.

A double from Peter Wiltshire secured the victory in a game which saw the visitors play almost the entire second half with 10 men.

Norwich went into the half time interval with a 1-0 lead after keeper, Will Viner was beaten by a looping header. The home team didn’t really create many clear chances in the half although Payton Swatman did hit the post with the visitor’s keeper well beaten.

With a half-time rocket behind them and changes made, the Yachtsmen came out at the start of the second half looking to show a much improved performance. In fact it wasn’t more than a minute into the play that Wroxham gained an opening and Norwich were reduced to 10 men. With little resemblance of a “friendly” a flare up in the visitors area saw the referee dismissing one of the visiting players. The resulting penalty was confidently fired home by Peter Wiltshire.

As the game was getting more feisty with both sides getting stuck in, the tackles forced the referee to have a word with players from both sides on more than one occasion.

Eventually, Wroxham’s extra man proved to be the undoing of the visitors. As the Norwich defence creaked under heavy pressure, the second goal finally came. A ball across the area to the back post saw Wiltshire with back to goal try an audacious overhead kick which nestled into the net.

The game continued on a similar vein as the rain fell. The competitiveness was exactly what the home side needed in their last game in pre-season.

Ross Potter and Tom Parke now look to see what side they should be putting out on Tuesday night as the season begins with a home game against Histon, kick-off 7.45pm.
